SOCIETY OF THE HOLY CHILD JESUS
Abstract
This collection provides a very basic history and background information on the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. While more detailed historical information can be found at the SHCJ archives (in fact many items in this collection are duplicates of those at the SHCJ archives) coverage in this collection is more about the relationship of the Society to Rosemont College and its founding.
Material in this collection is organized in four series. The first includes copies of letters written by Connelly to various recipients dated between 1835-1978; and documents that promote the beatification and canonization of Connelly, including a documentary report presented to the Sacred Congregation for the Cause of Saints.
The second series includes the Society's philosophy of education as well as a general SHCJ history.
The third series contains memorabilia collected by the sisters during their time at Rosemont College - correspondence and a flag commomorating the 150th anniversary of the order.
the fourth series contains the work of Mother Mary Lawrence Swinburne, SHCJ, who was recognized for her inspired teaching during the early years of the college (1921-1968).
